Possible sour crop???

It sounds like the egg is the problem. It needs to come out without breaking further, if possible. I might try a warm Epsom salt bath. It can be tricky. Try to look up how others have done it successfully.
Thank you so much for your advice. I have bathed her and a very slimy poo came out that looked like it was mainly the white of the egg. Today she is a different chicken all thanks to your advice checking for a stuck egg yesterday. Her poo is returning to a soft brown but it is still quite smelly.

Great! Well done!

She might have an upset digestive system after that. I sometimes add some ginger powder or probiotics to their food and water for a few days (changing both every day.) Calcium is also important. It usually works itself out, but check to make sure her crop empties in the morning. If it doesn't, she might have another stuck egg or her system could have backed up long enough to start a fungal problem, in which case slow crop treatment may be necessary. It sounds like she is on the mend, though. Good job!

One more thing to mention. If you think the yolk contaminated the vent, I think there are antibiotics and maybe other preventative treatments to keep it from getting serious. It can spoil pretty fast. I haven't had much trouble with that, myself, but you may want to look into it since the egg was broken.

Oh, just saw you took her to a vet, assuming that's the same hen. That's great.
Hi yes I took her just to be on the safe side with the egg breaking but I didn’t take the antibiotics because the vet said we can’t ever eat the eggs again. I’m not bothered about the eggs but she is is a coop with her other 3 sisters so it would mean separating her which will just cause so many problems when they are let out to free range.

There are antibiotic treatments like allicin, (which comes from garlic,) that don't really have egg withdrawal, but they are not necessarily effective for this. I like to give free choice garlic or other antibiotic herbs, just in case, if more powerful antibiotics aren't suitable.
