Possibly aggressive cockerel?

Hey Songhill! Thank you very much for the information! Here is what I have planned to do -
1. I have planned to hatch out some 14 eggs.
2. For that, I have separated a Mixed Breed Rooster with a Naked Neck Hen and an Aloha Hen.
3. I have chosen the best male I could. He doesn't have a name, I just call him 'sweety' and he is the sweetest rooster. I recently bought him and quarantined him for some 21 days (I am a bit too much, but hey) and let him free after that. I noticed, he is the sweetest with the females, doesn't hurt them, protects them from people he doesn't know, but isn't afraid of me and doesn't really care about me which is quite convenient. So I chose him.
4. The females I chose were because of their behaviour and their physical condition which was perfect.
5. So hopefully, I get at least 7 females from here. I will keep them, and the 7 males would be butchered and sent to my relatives which is quite, not gonna lie, delish!
6. My 2 misbehaving ones will turn into 🍗
7. The other two, LETS HOPE FOR THE BEST?
8. I absolutely love my hens so nope, not killing them for 100,000 dollars.

So, that sums up my plans! Now, you may ask, why do I need more hens, well that has its reasons but, I hope you like my plan! If there is anything wrong, please feel free to correct me. Thank you!!
Sounds like you will have babies if all goes normal! I hope you get 7 great hens! Having enjoyment from your work with the chickens is one of the important issues! I hope you post pictures of the results of your breeding experiment. Best wishes for your life as a chicken custodian!

Hi guys, here is the update on my plan -
1. I have made one hen sit on 4 eggs (not really sure if they will hatch)
2. I have made 2 hens sit on 6 eggs individually
3. Fingers crossed

Side note : I know this thread's name is 'Possibly Aggressive Cockerel' and something happened today. One of our roosters killed another one. I did try make my gramma understand so many roosters are a recipe for disaster but she didnt listen and this happened. Quite sad😔 I am butchering the other males from today without telling my gramma so I think everything will be fine.

Sounds like your instincts about the "possible" aggressive rooster was correct. Sorry to hear about the trouble. I hope the other roosters are good eating! I kill, clean and have them in the pan in less than about 20 minutes or refrigerate them for three days before cooking to avoid tough birds(from rigor mortise). If it is a tough bird, the dogs eat well. Now days, I am slower and usually do the latter(chill for three days) to allow the natural process of rigor mortise to pass. That is also one reason people use to hang up game birds before cooking, a few days , on a fall/winter porch/unheated room in the pre electric days. My grandmother could kill, clean, flour and have a chicken frying in 15 minutes, easily, up till about 80 years old, all by hand, without killing cones, feather picking machines or any special tools. Wishing you best of luck with hatching chicks!

She sounds like my grandma 😂
I know someday I'll need to butcher roosters...right now I don't have any...and I have no idea what I'm doing! I guess I need to look for some posts about what you're talking about. I never thought about how fast you needed to do everything! 😳

I got one adventurous hen -

Hello everybody! I am actually travelling now so I cant show you guys any pictures but remember the 4 eggs I set to hatch? They hatched! All of them! They are healthy and eating with their mummy! So I didnt see them but as per they told me, 1 is red (like its father that I separated) and its a normal chick. Now, the other 3 I was thinking would be either red like their father or white like their mother. Turns out the other 3 are black?! I am not sure why but okay. And, one of those 3 black chicks is a naked neck!! I am excited to show you guys pics when I return home! Till then, finger crossed🤞

Have fun and stay safe!

How long have you waited until collecting the hatching eggs after separating the hens and adding the selected rooster?

It should have been at least 4 weeks after separating them, to make sure the eggs would be fertilized by the selected rooster only.
