We have a small flock of chickens and love them and we're considering adding quails to the mix. After doing some research on them I've learned that they're fairly easy to take care of, eat less food, and lay beautiful eggs. What I'm trying to figure out is if they might be able to live with our chickens or if we would need a separate aviary,if they are in fact as easy as they seem, and regardless of the two prior questions if they make for fun pets! Thanks!

I would suggest coturnix to start with. They do well in smaller spaces, come to maturity quickly, and are quiet and fairly easy to handle. I love my cots, they can be very sweet and friendly if you handle them enough. My female is the sweetest little thing - she talks to me when she sees me, and I can even let her out of her pen and she will just stay in the yard and play in the grass (but I wouldn't generally recommend letting them out, they don't free range). I say go for it!
