LOL! In spite of the humor and laughs I myself got out of it, I was serious! I washed his butt and didn't "shave" it. We'll soon see what the ladies think!

It's not about the hen's having a choice. I just don't want them getting chafed or stuck by those stubby cut-off feathers. Laugh if you wish, I certainly am, but my concern here is real.
Weird because I was going to put a post on tonight about 2 of my girls and thier fluffy feathers under the vent. 2 of my larger girls have poop on the fluffy feathers...I have no idea how to clean it off. I tried taking a wet towel tonight and then drying them off but the poop was hard and didn't come off very well. Wondering how to clean them (temps have been warm in the day but chilly at night). Do I try to give them a bath and if so how do I dry them off. Will the poop hurt anything. Loooks kind of gross and the kids call them poopy butts! And I didn;t think I would be cleaning chicken butts either. Any help?
First off you never clip or trim or cut feathers...................... Hold him firm and pluck away until there is a good decent sized area the size of a quarter or so free of feathers, I do this to all the roosters and hen's in my barns. It helps in many practicle way's, aids in fertilization, keeps them cleaner, makes vent inspection easier, be it mite/lice inspection.
Now for all you woman who are wondering it's just like a brazillian wax or something without the wax, it doesn't hurt them and doesn't take long but it will sure get rid of the problem. Any good breeder does this and it's a common practice amoung real chicken people, the pet chicken people on the other hand may have you thrown in jail LOL.
Here is what it looks like on a rooster,
Now I don't want to hear any guff about why I have a detailed picture of a roosters butt LOL, I was doing a DIY Cornish AI slideshow.
Ok I have never plucked any feathers but Ithink I can do it to make the area a little larger. What do I do for the poop stuck to the feathers. The vent area is clean - no poo, but the feathers/fluffy area under the vent has a line of poop.
