My ducks are about a month old and all of them seem to be getting around really well except for my biggest Pekin Duck. Her right hip either looks really swollen or dislocated, when I pick her up she doesn’t make any noise so it doesn’t seem like it bothers her. She can’t get around like the other ducklings tho, she walks really slow and she trips over her feet a lot but when i put them in their pool she swims really well! Does anyone know what this could be ?

Does she put weight on her leg? How does her leg feel, warm? Does she walk like this?

She doesn’t act like it bothers her when she puts weight on it, when she gets out of the pool she’ll stand on it for a long time while she dries herself off. Her legs feel a little warm but that could be due to her being under a heat lamp right now. She walks like that sometimes. When she try’s to run like the other ducklings she usually trips over her own feet tho.

Sounds like she is suffering from a B3 deficiency, what are you feeding her, are you providing a niacin supplement to her feed or water? I would suggest getting some Liquid B complex Injectable for cattle, the brand is Durvet. You will find it at most feed stores or it can be ordered online, you will want to give 1ml a day over treats or given orally with a syringe or eyedropper, do this until symptoms improve.

The people at tractor supply told me to start them out with this, I didn’t know I needed to provide an niacin supplement but I definitely will now. If I use The vitamin B complex and there’s nothing actually wrong with her would it harm her ?

That feed is for chicks, it doesnt have enough niacin in it for a ducklings needs.I suggest you either switch feeds to a All Flock\Purina Raiser feed or buy a feed formulated for ducklings. No, giving her the B complex will not hurt her at all, many people give it as a precautionary measure to ensure leg problems dont start to occur.

Thank you! I’ll definitely be going shopping tomorrow for new duckling feed.
