I noticed my chicken the other day acting lethargic and walking odd (I had actually watched this for a couple of days). A friend of mine said that is sounded like she is egg bound. I checked her and there is an egg in her. From there, I did my research, brought her inside and started doing whatever was on the list of solutions to releasing the egg. It has been 3 days now that I've had her inside and she has gained strength in those days, but is still straining at times, looking like she's trying to push the egg out.
The thing is, I read that chickens only live up to 48 hours if they're egg bound and she has lived longer, dealing with this issue. What more is there that I can do for her from home? I've soaked her a handful of times with epsom salts in warm water in the sink for 15-20 min each. I made water with tums in it that she LOVED. I gave her water with apple cider vinegar in it as well. She is getting extra oyster shells in her crumbles. And I have massaged the area as well as placing vegetable oil on the area after her baths. Oh and she did start off with green diarrhea, but since then her poop has become normal, but she's definitely not going as often...
Not sure what else I can do or the fact she outlived 48 hours... I'm hoping I'm not missing anything.
