Possibly infected Rooster Leg

So I called our vet and he doesn’t do chickens. He did give me some antibiotics so I’m going to give that a go! I do have a the Texas A&M vet school near me but I would be looking at spending hundreds if not thousands. I can’t find another vet will treat a rooster.

I’m gonna keep trying to help him!!!
In my experience the vet schools are way less expensive than a vet.

Called the vet school, and they aren’t taking any new patients.

I have the wrap and Vetericyn coming via Amazon today. Will be splinting and wrapping tonight

I bought the fish antibiotics (Penicillin) because my vet hasn’t dropped off the antibiotics yet. I’m hoping that works!

The break in the skin might mean it is a compound fracture. The is when the skin is punctured and bacteria can enter the bone. That really does needs splinting and an antibiotic. What did the vet prescribe?

The vet hasn’t dropped off the antibiotics yet but when I was at TSC, I bought some of the penicillin they give fish so I’m hoping that may work if he doesn’t drop it off today.

This is what I bought. Has anyone here used this before?

I would take the penicillin back to the feed store if that is where you got it. Use the tetroxy and see how it does. If you need another antibiotic, I would get this one (Fish Mox) at TSC:

You have been so helpful! I really do appreciate you! I will return the pen. They do have Amox. Which do you think is better, Amox or the tetroxy?

Again, THANK YOU!!!!!

Update on Genghis Khan (Rooster):

I soaked his leg with epsom salt, sprayed the Vetericyn spray on the wounds, wrapped it and placed a splint on it.

Gave him antibiotics. He is comfortable. I’ll keep y’all posted. Here are some pics of the process! It takes a village to heal a rooster, y’all!
