Possibly Niacin Deficiency

Good afternoon y'all.

I am giving an update on my little duck. I was giving him medicine orally for about a month, and with very little improvement I moved him outside with the three other hens. He gets along well with them, but his leg is still bent, and he has troubles walking and getting out of the swimming pool. Also when he stands he is constantly shifting his weight and doing a little bob. I have been giving brewers yeast since I moved him outside.

Any suggestions?
You have a special needs duck and I wish you all the best. I have a special needs hen with a leg issue after a fox attack. Just spent the morning modifying the run and everything to accommodate her 🤷‍♀️ Just tryin' our best, ya know? Good luck duck! ☮️❤️

Bless it is having problems. Water therapy can help build strong leg muscles along with the B complex. If he is struggling to keep up and it’s causing more problems you might want to confine him with a buddy for about a week and see if all the above works. Yes the duck is special needs but hopefully you can help get this duck where it’s doing much better.

That’s so sweet of you. I hope your hen does much better with all your doing.

I followed @Miss Lydia ’s instructions for a duckling with similar issues. She knows what she is talking about. My duck is almost normal now. Like she suggested, I think you need both the vitamins and the swim therapy. I made sure mine could swim several times a day or at least rest in a small water filled container. Once a day, I filled the bathtub to make her use those legs to swim. They are weightless in water so those muscles can strengthen.
I squirt a little over a mL of the B vitamins over Soldier fly larva (similar to mealworms) in the morning. Then, I give them to her over the course of the day, rather than all at once. I think that increases absorption. I hope your little one improves. It took a while before I saw improvement.
