) I went out to look them up and I say a pair of eyes up by the road, I begain walking up when one of my RIR came ranning out skwaking! I ran in and the was a posson in the coop and I yelled for my brother to get the gun. When he was getting it I realized it was a tiny little thing! When he got there I said no to shooting it in the coop. We (I) got it out but it was to dark to shoot and I didn't hand the flashlight to him in time. but everyones ok and locked up tight and safe. It was terrifed of the chickens too

.( It's funny now not when it was in the coop)

If it was a young one, most likely the rest of the family is nearby. Last year I killed multiples from the same family... mom, pop, and an offspring. Seems that once one finds a food supply they bus in the relatives.

I've also had trouble with racoons, killing the lastest one just this morning. Huge thing too... bigger than my 20 lb rat terrior. I've got a picture of him posted here: http://www.countrychickens.com/country_chickens_4_006.htm

If
I were you, I'd set a trap for the little bugger. Possums like fruit, dry dog food, and marshmallows.

Good luck!

Well, who'd have thunk it? I caught two racoons in two days! No wonder my hens were disappearing so quickly. Can't wait to see what I catch tonight.

My back field is full of buzzards this morning, waiting for the racoons to reach "good eating" stage. Looks like a Hitchcock movie... I bet there are 30 of them just sitting there waiting.
