Possum Attack

I have rinsed this major wound off really well, vetericyn twice a day, but what else can I do? She is eating, drinking, pooping. I know she is hurting but can she come back from this? Should I do more for her wing to heal?

Thank you. I tried this, but she wouldn't even swallow at all. She has been eating. So hoping she is drinking also. I have been putting electrolytes in their water. 🤞
Welcome To BYC

I'm sorry about your hen.

Is vet care an option?

I'd get some Chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) or Povidone Iodine and clean the wound really well. Then coat it with triple antibiotic ointment.
I'd also trim up the feathers from around the wounds so they stay cleaner and you can see them better.

With exposed bone, there's always a worry about infection, so having an antibiotic on hand is a very good idea. If you already have something, let us know what you have and we can help you with it. Otherwise, I'd order some Baytril (linked below) to have in case the wound gets infected. Hopefully it will not, if you clean it well and tend to it daily.

Hens can recover from some serious wounds, it takes time and care, but they can recover.

Work on her drinking, giving the electrolytes is good. It sounds like she's eating on her own.

This is the thread you want to read. Her hen was attacked and the wing bone was exposed. Every case/situation is different, but you may find some useful information and inspiration in the thread too. She just updated within the last week as the hen is still in the process of healing up, she's almost there though, so maybe it will give you some hope.
