Possum in my chicken coop

I can't picture any circumstance when I would hoist a possum off the ground by his tail. Let alone be in the same county as one. I thought if you holler at them they drop and pretend they are dead. I didn't know they bare their fangs

. I could picture me chasing him if I had a high powered garden house but, only in my dreams.

Did you get it out of there last night so you could lock up......or just leave the door open?
I left the door open, hoped for the best and lucked out. By then I had read online that they weren't as nasty as raccoons so I felt a little optimistic. They are locked up right now and prob will stay indoors for a few days since we are expecting rain.

Here's a photo of him:

Nasty looking buggars, aren't they? They'll drool and play dead to avoid confrontation. Knock wood, I've not had opossums go after anything other than feed or eggs. My worse predators are fox and hawks. Opossums are somewhat beneficial to have around as they're tick magnets and fastidious about grooming and, even though not impossible, it's rare for an opossum to contract rabies. Glad s/he ambled on.
