Post hatch yolk-belly chick - final Update

I have been giving him sugar water, which he tolerates well. He stands and cheeps. I tried to put him with the other chicks, and they just attacked him. I suppose that is a sign of what is to come but who knows. The yolk sack is drying up. It is about the size of a hazelnut now instead of a grape. I am hoping his belly will close and it will fall off. Maybe the other chicks will accept him then, if he gets that far.

You guys are killing me with your hatching stories!!!! It's all your fault that I bought some eggs online and am going to hatch one more batch of fuzzy butts!!!! I swore I was done with chicks for the year. . . .

Oh, and you all had great results!!! How fun is it to hatch your own??!! It doesn't seem to matter how many times you do it, it's still an incredible experience! Congrats on all your chicks!!!!

How is your baby doing Loco? I was just thinking, if the yolk is that big, you might want to wrap the little sucker in a washcloth or something, so it doesn't pull on it. I have read some posts on here that said the chick's intestines got pulled out from it. I would think your humidity was too high, for this to happen. Mine was because I tried to 'help', and didn't know what I was doing. Unless you tried to help, and I missed that post!

You need to come back on and give us an UPDATE!!!

Yes this was because I tried to help him. I was worried that all my chicks would have trouble due to low humidity, so after the first one hatched and then none did for a long time I just helped the rest. It was fine for all but this one. He should have had another day in the shell.

Anyway, he is doing ok. He is weak, of course, but doesn't seem to be getting any weaker that I can tell at the moment. I drop sugar water into his mouth from a wet towel and he does ok with that. If he survives, he is golden for life! He will be my pet forever lol. I will make it up to him! The other six are all little yellow fuzzy butts, cute as can be and thriving. I will just keep this guy in ICU for the next few days!

It looks like it is getting smaller, but hard to tell. He is weaker this morning, unfortunately. He did make a poop which I thought was good. I dunno. he looks really frail. He had some water this morning, i hope he perks up.

My last hatch I had the same thing. I "helped" it hatch and had a little yolk attached. It lived for 2 days and I thought it was gonna pull thru, but it didn't make it. I hope yours does though.

Here is what mine looked like...
