I ordered my first batch of cornish cross broilers and they got here fast. Too fast. I missed the call from the post office and now my poor little nuggets are stuck at the postal annex overnight.
GAH!
It was only 10 chicks from TSC. Are they all going to be dead in the morning when I get there?
Also, if anyone is a postal worker in California, what time do the employees start arriving at the shipping annex? It is not a normal post office. It is USPS though. They said I could come through the back loading dock.

Today I replaced my broken windshield, had an ignition coil go out on my car, and now my nuggets are going to come home pre-frozen!
I'm sure they will be fine. They weren't supposed to get here until the 3rd. I am just preparing for the worst.

I can't answer your question about that, but I wish you luck in that they will be ok overnight there until you can get them early in the morning! Make sure that you prepare the heat in your brooder before you go to get them. They will probably be needing it.
The brooder is already set up and running. I am doing in in our unused walk in shower this time so I'm excited about that. Thank you for your well wishes.

from time of shipping, i wouldn't be worried until you pass the 72 hour mark, under that they will be fine. They absorb a lot of nutrients from the yolk, that is why shipping chicks is feasible, as long as they are warm they can go without food/water for 72 hours-ish.

I was able to go get them at 4:40 this morning. One died before I was able to pick them up and then two more passed since getting home. I think just from stress. Everyone else seems to be doing good! Next time I will definitely be more diligent about tracking. Poor chickies.
