Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

im a firm beleiver that the "too much cushion" saves those hens from those massive carvng turkey roosters weight..also lots of moores and open land over there ,not the tree coverage like here valuable protection for hawk attacks..they do get a fist full of feathers

That bit of too much cushion saved her. Whatever it was got feathers, not meat.

I think it is rather a sparrow hawk or a Buzzard. I need my crows to come back!, I am going to start leaving food out for them again because I think its the same thing that killed 3 last year. And if Bella's mother is going to be raising chicks I cant be there to watch them 24/7 so she will have to be alert and stay in the protection of the rest of the flock instead of taking the chicks on their own journey like she usually does.

Just been up to give Bella's mother some chicks. I have NEVER had a hen go for me that much!, the way she was carrying on I thought she was going to get up and start flapping at me! I hope to find a happy mama tomorrow, I will be so annoyed if she doesn't accept them after everything I did to get them.

I got this gal with two other blue orps is she an orp too?

BB has gone broody! Its her first time so I am going to let her and see how it goes. Probably not going to be great since I have not trimmed butts and they are young.

Below is Boris & BB last summer/fall. He is the cockerel in with the girls currently.

What kind of chicks did you give her ?

Bella's mother accepted them!, to answer thedragonlady's question, she has a Speckled Sussex and a Welsummer!:

I cracked her other eggs open and 5 out of 7 were fertile, 4 of which didn't make it past week one and one which was Bella's egg appeared to have died on day 20/21 when the Orpington left it uncovered! It was a lovely little black chick...
