Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

My dog nearly got a flap int he face today when he pushed his luck with mama Daisy! She is a lot more feisty and protective than I ever thought she would be! My dogs already below one hen in the pecking order (I know its weird! He's a Jack Russel and my ex batt beat him up and runs up to him and pecks him when everyones feeding so she can have the feeder that he is sitting next to) so he doesn't want to start dropping to the bottom!
Johnn,

You're going to have to put up a sign for your chickens!

"BEWARE.....PATROLLED BY GUARD CHICKENS!"

I love it! Those are some tough chickens....LOL!

Just had a question about BO coloring. All my hens are the same standard, uniform buff color, but my rooster, as he got older is almost a orange, red color with dark tail feathers. He came from the same place as the hens, just not sure if its possible that he's another breed all together or if darker colors can happen. Thanks, I'll try and get a picture up when I can

I am new to LF Orpingtons. I have hatched this past spring several colors so I could have a variety. I am enjoying watching them grow and now trying to find out about breeding for these colors. I have whites, blacks, lavenders, blues, splashes, and splits from black and lavenders. Is there any info about breeding to improve on some of these colors and feathers. I am hoping there is a chart or someone to ask these questions to. LOL Is there a dominate color like some other animals. I don't have very many of any of these colors. Any help would be great.

I am sure someone with more experience will pop up to help you.............
I have BBS English orps.so breed within those colors...........concentrating on their intended type.......or standard.........
But I am a hobbiest.so just try to be true to the breed.

I found it is best to keep it simple first.... blue, black and splash can be bred to each other. The rest need to be breed same color to same color. ie. white to white- buff to buff-
Your splits can be bred to the lavenders or the blacks.

I found after reading about color genetics I needed more time and reading before diving into the deep pool of *I wonder what I will get*. Take a look at this thread and that is breeding what many experienced breeders are saying what happened to them a few times through the years

Rest In Peace my beloved Lancaster.

Yesterday afternoon, my beloved head rooster, Lancaster, lost his life in the battle with a bobcat. I loved, and adored him very much! I am devastated and deeply heart broken.

Lual
Oh! So sorry, he was a pretty boy. My DH got a huge bobcat last night in the woods right behind my pens- thankfully got him before he had a chance to get any of my birds!
