Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Rest In Peace my beloved Lancaster.

Yesterday afternoon, my beloved head rooster, Lancaster, lost his life in the battle with a bobcat. I loved, and adored him very much! I am devastated and deeply heart broken.

Lual
Lual,

He was beautiful..I am sorry for your loss..
Hi! I've got a dumb question and hope that somebody can anwer it? I sent somebody to look at my photos of my birds on my Profile and they said that this is what came up:

"Your account does not have the required permissions to access this page."

Does anybody know what I have to do to allow them to be able to see my pictures. Do I need to reset something or what does that mean? Just curious. I've looked at my setting and I don't see where I can change anything. A lot of people have looked at my pics with no problem. I'm sure it's just something that I've set or didn't set somehow. Has anybody else dealt with this?

Thanks.....I know it is off subject....sorry. Just hoping somebody can answer that one question.

Not a dumb question.
Some personal files you put in your profile with pictures need an account with permission. Most people do not pay for additional privileges on BYC, so they are limited to certain amounts. New people can't. I think they have them on some type of probation. I do not pay anything for BYC and I am limited to peoples profile pictures also. Some I can see and some I can't.

My dog nearly got a flap int he face today when he pushed his luck with mama Daisy! She is a lot more feisty and protective than I ever thought she would be! My dogs already below one hen in the pecking order (I know its weird! He's a Jack Russel and my ex batt beat him up and runs up to him and pecks him when everyones feeding so she can have the feeder that he is sitting next to) so he doesn't want to start dropping to the bottom!

Thanks for the info! I didn't even think of that....duh! Makes sense to me!

contact a moderator and have them take a look at it and someone unlock it for you if it hasn't been locked down for fighting or some other reason..

Where they on a thread that got shut down?

Johnn may have the answer as far as being on a thread that was shut down. They do have to be logged into a BYC account to see your stuff. If they have been "banned" for some reason (it's always temporary) then they can't see it.
Thanks for the info guys.....I really appreciate it! I think I will check with a moderator and see what's going on.

Do u recommend getting hatching eggs or older. A local farm has 7 wk olds...just not sure if it is more beneficial to raise from hatchlings???
I don't know if anybody has answered this or not......

EGGS

PROS:

  • Usually cheaper than chicks
  • Since local....don't have to worry about shipping problems

Cons:

  • Fertility issues.....will you get chicks from the eggs
  • Time it takes to incubate eggs + Time in brooder (can have some die soon after hatching)
  • Problems with chicks that you won't know until they hatch (such as spradle leg, flippers, etc.)
  • Your hatch could produce too many of one sex (i.e....all roosters)
  • Very few people stop to calculate how much it cost to incubate eggs (electricity)
  • Cost of feeding those chicks first few weeks (shavings, electricity for heat lamp, chick feed, electrolytes, etc. etc.)
  • Having to keep chicks inside for first week or so......messes to clean up...LOL

AND THEN THERE IS :

CHICKS

PROS::

  • Can see any deformities with the chicks - giving you a better chance to pick healthy birds
  • Depending on age of chick....faster to get to adult birds to lay eggs
  • Can see what the chick actually looks like (as far as colors)
  • Depending on age of chick....you can determine Hens from Roosters
  • Since they are local - you could actually see them before purchase & pick out the most robust chicks.
  • Save money on 1st week or so of feed
  • You can put an older chick outside and not have to have them inside your house, etc., etc.

CONS:

  • More expensive
  • If vaccinated (be careful to migrate them into your flock - they can shed disease to your other bids - (ALWAYS QUARANTINE CHICKS))
  • If not vaccinated could bring sickness to your current flock (ALWAYS QUARANTINE CHICKS)

Also....whether you choose eggs or chicks....getting them locally.....you can see how the farmer takes care of his/her adult birds....how healthy they are. If they are taking care of the adult birds.....then they have probably taken the precautions to take care of the chicks too. You're lucky that you can get them locally!

Really it just boils down to how much time you want to invest in your birds VS. How much money you're willing to spend.

Just my opinion.....some others may have more to add. Hope this helps to weigh the differences!

GOOD LUCK ON WHICHEVER YOU CHOOSE!
