To keep that from happening as much..make sure your feed is covered in water. There should be an inch of water covering the feed. Stir 2x a day and add water when needed. A hand strainer works well for scooping out feed. If it is too wet after you scoop into bowls, add dry crumbles to the mixture to thicken it up just before service, or add grains etc.. The film is normal and healthy growth. It is the same bacteria that grows to make yogurt and cottage cheese.
