Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

I think it's quite sad that Daisy is growing apart form her baby now. The poor thing is left to go through the pecking order alone. Also, does anyone else think her chick is under grown for 10 weeks?

It's always sad when Momma starts leaving them on their own and even sadder when she actively runs them off. Especially for a lone chick. But they are resilient and will eventually become accepted, even if they have to just hang around on the outskirts of the flock for a good while.

Not sure about it being small, it looks so here but when seeing it with the others, it is after all only a couple months old.

I divided 12 eggs between 3 hens............They hatched 10............
My old hen tried everything she could think of to steal the other hens chicks finally settling on co raising them during the day.
The youngest hen dumped her chicks at about 5weeks....then the other hen about a week later.. Our old hen took all of them on and is still sleeping with them.
It is to funny. They are about 1/2 her size now. ( meant to post this under Johnns post

Daisy's Sussex chick is soooooooooo adorable...bless her heart...she'll be on the bottom of the pecking order for awhile I'd bet. It's so nice to have at least 1 hatch buddy for this reason too. Sometimes it does not work out that way. Perhaps get more hatching eggs next go round to insure at least a few hatch out. Hard to tell on the chick's size since we're seeing her alongside large Orps mostly. Perhaps photographing her with something common to reference her size better.

I know but my girls are rotten. None of the hens are properly accepted unless they are high in the pecking order. I'm really hoping Bella will get rid of the other two and take it in because it needs her more than the other 2 do. They are like 20 weeks now, so they don't need her. Daisy's baby on the other hand, is an only chick and has to live with a nasty flock.

Does Bella's thickness annoy anyone else? She was doing so well, she was eating the food off the treadle feeders step and then when she stood on it, it opened and she crapped herself and then ran off!

She's decent size for a LT. Sussex at 10 weeks.Nice chest on her too. She'll grow. Maybe Auntie Bella will take her on.

She's not thick ! She's a wary survivor who was raised on the moors. That wariness will keep her alive, I hope.

I know but she just idiotic things. Like all the other hens walk over the wood when going through the bog but Bella just walks through it. She has no common sense!

ROFLMAO! Yep, I had a treadle feeder and that's about how it goes. What I finally did was prop it open, then every few days prop it a little less open. Eventually they get used to the step that "moves" and do fine.

Thats why we love her, Johnn. All the funny things she does and we get to see beautiful pictures and stories about them!
