Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Kathy that black pullet in number 15 looks very english typey. Very pretty girl. I like the blue cockerel in 14 You have some really pretty blue pullet and blacks ones too. I see a few keepers in the black cockerels. Let me know how they taste.

Do you mean smaller just in height? If he is wide and typey I might hang on to him for a while. You can breed a smaller typey cobby cockerel over larger girls and still reproduce size. Usually if the hens are smaller it will not work . Anyway that is what I have read and found to be true.
I have some that are looking really good. Still young yet though. i have one little guy that is smaller but very wide and I like his personality. I have just got to let him grow out to at least six months and see how he looks. I really don't have room but I just like him and am curious as to how he will end up. He is about 3 months now.

Hello friends!

Bama what does cobby mean? Kathy those are beautiful birds! How do you plan to cook them (I am serious) when the roos get past 14 weeks I have read that the testosterone kicks in and makes them tough.

Are you going to use them for soup?

I will get a picture of him next to the other boys. He is very small. I was thinking he is just gonna be a late bloomer. I do plan to keep him, just to see if that is the case.

Right now I am just (again) over run with roosters. I have 40 meaties (Cornish Cross) and at least 25 other roos that have to go, not counting the 11 Orp roos I have. I have got to get cull roos very soon. I figured another month. The Orps will be 5 months old then. Most of them are already huge!

The thing is, I don't want to take them to auction and get just a couple bucks for them. They are worth much more than that. I would rather eat them. You should see the beautiful reds I have that are going too (RIR, rosecomb RIR, Buckeyes) and Barred Rocks, too! Soup, stew, anything slow cooked. I really hate to, but .....

I completely understand. I just wondered how you were going to cook them, maybe I can learn something! I always cook my roos up for soup or casseroles but most of the flavor comes out in the water and the meat is blah and dry. Soup is good....
