Show her. In my opinion, she has good color, and decent type. I like the head. Can't tell alot about the tail from this pic, but looks fine to me. Also can't tell about size, BUT looks good size by this pic. BUT, pics never tell the whole truth and let a judge at a show tell you the faults to work on. I don't see any reason to not show. And in most shows there are very few Buffs let alone Orpingtons of any variety to show against. I'd show her IF it isn't too inconvenient.
Nice girl!

I may as well try her. I think I'm going to try another cockerel from the same batch. I've never been to a show, but I thought the competition might be pretty stiff for Orpingtons. Good to know!

I am bringing at least 8 to 10 Buffs to our Lebanon IN Show on Oct 16th just to get crushed. I know a 6 or 7 month ole can not beat a 11 or 10 month ole. But that isn't why I want to show I am more concerned on how my Buffs place against each other. Their all very young, these here, I just talked myself into showing for the reason of getting a Licensed APA judge to tell me what he likes. And to have Doug's (another APA licensed judge) undivided attention to, on one of the breeds he loves, tell me what he thinks. That is the main reason to show. Winning is really just a distraction for me. I shown three times EVER and have a Reserve of Breed one time. That is nice to say, but I am really not ready till spring to really compete. using these judge's opinions as a guide on who to use. A judge MAY change your mind on what you might want to do. It is all because Doug told my first Black Orpington breeder, I bought chicks from, to get some new blood from a neighboring states high quality Black Orp breeder line to help me keep truckin on. (Russ milkey) That Black breeder told me about Doug.. Small Poultry world.
Most likely a couple of these big boys will be outta here in a month or two. just the way it is.

I really wanted to take this Blue cockerel to the show too, BUT a wise young man talked to me and says NO TAKING CHANCES with him. He is too valueable a part of the English program. And this young man, is right and will get some eggs.

Beautiful buffs Bill! The blue is pretty too. When I saw him in the first pic he looked very much splash with the way the sun spots Re biting him. My English babies will be here next week. Can't wait to see what I'll have. Then in about a week and half i'll be hatching out some more blue and splash orps.

Very cool to hear buffbeauty. I like the Splashes. Their all different from each other. I know you will love your UKers. I like mine.
I really like the Buff pullet. Their young Buffs from May, and need to let them grow. I may take two Buff cockerels, even though their hackle feathers need to grow a bunch.
I wasn't sure what to call the Blue? Julie said Splash, she would know it is her line. Doug said Blue, I guess if I entered him, I'd have to go by what he says. Then get him judged and really know. I can say Splash cause of the White beak. But, I am holding him here and not taking him anywhere. I know IF he goes to a Black I should get Blues. I culled out the other two Black cockerels in his pen. So, it is just him and those three pullets. I like to have two other pullet/hen Black pens to run him in every third day. He is a nice start to a UK flock. I plan on using him in a different way then my normal breeding pens. I usually just put one cock in a pen with the same hens and let them stay together for months. But, doing the way I like, will get him on 10 or so hens in three different pens and he should be able to keep them all happy. Which may mean more Ukers to grow and play with.

Hello!
I currently have a beauty of a Buff Orpington Rooster... but he is getting to loud for my neighbors. Would anyone in the Washington State area care to trade? I'd like to see him find a good home rather then meet my stew pot. He's so big and pretty I know he would make great chicks and he takes great care of my hens (leghorns). He's only 6 months old now. Please PM me if your interested!

He's a very handsome boy. I'm sure you'll find a good home for him.

Bill - Your big splash guy is also quite the looker. Julie would be correct though, he is a splash, not a blue.

I agree, the white beak is only on Splashes. Being a Splash opens the door onto breeding to Blacks. Julie's 2 Black pullets I hatched are very nice. One has a great tail. And he will be in with them for the fall. Come spring I am tempted to take him to a White too, down the road, hope to make some whites look like him. It is going to be alot of fun no matter where he is. Harry says to give one of my best Buffs to him as well. Harry is our Mad Scientist. I am EYEGOR, his noble assistant in this crazy stuff we like to do.
