Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

This White pullet is about the Sweetest chicken I have. Always wanting to hang out even with the dogs and the cat. Yesterday I caught her side stepping around the dogs to go further into the house. She was quickly redirected back to the brooder room.

Thank you, we're trying to build up some number and hopefully the intro of different varieties will increase vigor. When I did an outcross of Buff Orp lines I instantly had Buffs who layed 8 days out of 10. That is what I hope to gain by using the Buffs as a back up bloodline. I hope to get a couple of others White Exhibition breeder's lines by the end of next year.

The Tralfamadorians are a fictional alien race mentioned in several novels by Kurt Vonnegut. Tralfamadore is the way he spells it. I guess I need to add the "e" at the end. I like Kurt Vonnegut. Very few ever heard of him. Some of his books references the bombing of Dresden Germany. He was a POW during WWII when Dresden was wiped out and 50,000 people died.. His writing style is comical and serious at the same time while he places these books in a SciFi type of theme.
Just a cool name I thought. For a cool bird. Only one Tralfamador. lololol

Well, I like it better than something sci-fi more obvious, like Vadar. Nobody'll get him confused with other black roos. Literature is wonderful. We have a dog named Aromos, we didn't name him, so can't take credit, be we love literature too.

The book was made into a movie. I actually got into the book after seeing the movie. Some of the characters are very comical. One of my favs is Paul Lazarro. So I have a Blue Orp I call Laz. Short for Lazarro.
One of the sayins of the movie is Schlachthof Fünf. Which is German for Slaughterhouse Five. I added that to one of my pics of Laz a few pages ago. Just some respect to both Vonnegut and those who died in Dresden in WWII.

You can see who's been getting funky with my Cochin bantam cockerels, by the treading signs on their backs. They are so huge, and the boys are so small, its quite hilarious seeing them get it on.

One of the buff orp girls being broody and taking on surrogate hen roles, as these were not her eggs or chicks. We just set them under her and she hatched them out for us. It was her first experience hatching and she did great.
