that really is a nice young black .. he has a fantastic tail..they really like them to look like they were formed in a deep bowl. you can see it in that hen .and isnt that your hen? that you pointed out as english champion? she looks exactly like a pic you posted earlier of her..looks just like her anyway..

No that is a Russ Milkey line hen shown and conditioned by Tony Charlton. She will be at Crossroads too. Plus Tony has a killer Black cockerel he will be showing.

Hope you get me some pics from over there....dying to see that cockeral.. that looks lot like one of the hens you have, or had a while ago.. shes got a great profile .

I know what you mean..about the standards..I leave the color birds to the experts ..Im an andrew wyeth type person, everything subdued to simple colors ...black and white,..and my eye focuses right in on the form.I like to go for the form ..some of these breeders have that part right down to a science, then they use it as thier canvas to create colors..I dont have the canvas gessoed and I would still stay black or buff, and even buff would be hard for me.. but I sure admire what they are doing, some of these colors like lavander are stunning..or blue.....the blues are rich ..they are improving that all of the time..

there used to be a strain of the Orpingtons called ERMIN....I wonder if anyone has kept those going..ermin is actually a columbian color but these are orpingtons so they are royalty hee hee..ermin is a mink that they used to make into royal coats..long time ago they were popular in the show ring..now you never hear of them..I think they are gone now..maybe not..

I just let these oddities come to me. It seems IF I try to make something, I always have something else pop up. Like my Lav cockerel is making Cuckoo Blues. So I have Cuckoos and will make Cuckoo Blues. I had 2 of the Jubilee project type of birds pop out from an accidental breeding and breed them together thinking a Jubilee looking bird would come out and I get New Hampshire looking birds or a Red. So I go with what the birds are giving me. Now I have DUNNald DUCKwing Dunn. So a friend is bringing me her 2 Dunn pullets to Crossroads to breed to DUNNald. I will have a nice quartet of DUNNs to work with. The list of oddball varieties seems to grow by leaps and bounds. I have Exchequers, Mottleds, Birchens, Brown Reds and soon to be Lemon Blues. Not too many are doing any of what I listed. And prolly not too many will want any. But the culls will sell like hotcakes. So I will continue.

Thanks I will try to get better pics for you. He's really dark ontop and I wasn't going to keep any blue cockrels but, I'm really like his compact look. and dark top. If he pans out as he reaches 1yr to 18 months he'll be staying and breeding with my flock. So hard to judge them at this point
