Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

well. now they can see the difference. cant take it away from those british birds thou..magnificent birds...there is something so appealing about an orpington that actually looks like an orpington not an australorp. they so far dont have that dropped bantam wing thing that is supposed to be a fault but wins trophys here. i thing they would go a long way to fix a lot of those issues.

Why is it that some Orpington hens have practically no comb or wattles at all and some have nice sized combs and wattles? It makes it difficult to tell whether you have a hen or a roo unless the comb gets really big or until they are either crowing or laying.

Orpingtons should have a medium comb in size. Alot of that is left to judges interpretation of what is "MEDIUM". Since a comb is only worth 5 points. The incorrect size on a hen's comb would prolly only be a 1 point deduction. I TRY to breed the birds with a low profile comb. I see alot of hens with nearly as big a comb as some cocks running around. And for many folks that is all they have to start. But with proper selective breeding, you can breed that down to a smaller comb.
