Earlier in this thread you said the mother is a blue splash..correct? Since the rooster is such a mix of things why is a splash not possible? The way I understand it the only way you wouldn't have a chance of a splash chick would be when you breed a splash to black....that equals 100% blue. The roo is definately not black.

I'm not sure the chart you plugged your birds into is even relevant since the roo is such a mix. I thought those charts were only for pure colors.

You may be write KATY. I am guessing he throws like a Black. no way to really know till I have some birds grown up somewhat.
Here are some other Blues in amongst my SS chicks from BUS. There is actually about a dozen in this brooder tub, they all tucked in and I was able to get these two. One for sure is a blue, now these two chicks are from the same hatch as the yellow one I posted earlier. About the same size.
They look like Blues to me.

I doubt that it's possible for a mixed bird to "throw like a black"....too many other colors floating around his DNA.

What she said.

If I were new to this forum, I would never read this thread again....too misleading. I was under the impression that this was a PURE Orpington thread. Am I wrong?

Yep that's what it's supposed to be...unfortunately now it's not anymore.

I am happy to call these chicks Blues. It was three separate people who told me I have self Blues. The one of the three who does not have Lavs and is not breeding them is an APA judge. (Doug)
I am ONLY going by their expertise in identifying self blues. I am very happy to have a solid blue with type. AND IF that is all that comes out, I am on cloud nine. I want AKERS bloodlines in my Orps. ALL of them too.

My question to those three people would be.....have they seen the parent stock the chicks came from.....do they know the mixed parentage (breed and colors) of the rooster...and lastly, have they seen the chicks or even the parents in person...or they just going by the info that you have provided?

KATY, these folks are like you guys. Looking at pics. Seeing the quill on the outside of the wings and making a judgement. I am happy to raise them. Not sell or inter mix them with my REAL ORPS. And love them just as much. maybe even more now. They will look great in my yard. And trust me, I am not the only person on this site WHO ADMITS they have an impure birds. And still like breeding them.
Projects are fun, and I can tell you guys, I like it.
