Kathy, I thought splash two days ago. Then my friend told me how to identify a self blue. All I can say so far so good. I really don't care what anyone calls them. They are what they are.
The chart says it is impossible to be a splash. But, who knows what really is going on in his Australorp side Last I checked MT HEALTHY is a hatchery. One would think they have an extensive breeding program that takes in new blood from all over. And I can make more. I have at least 2 more chicks that are puny and growing up. Good chances their the same thing. Not too worried about what the type is. These are young and still have alot of time to look crappy. For now, I want more! ALOT more. I like them.
Earlier in this thread you said the mother is a blue splash..correct? Since the rooster is such a mix of things why is a splash not possible? The way I understand it the only way you wouldn't have a chance of a splash chick would be when you breed a splash to black....that equals 100% blue. The roo is definately not black.
I'm not sure the chart you plugged your birds into is even relevant since the roo is such a mix. I thought those charts were only for pure colors.
You may be write KATY. I am guessing he throws like a Black. no way to really know till I have some birds grown up somewhat.
Here are some other Blues in amongst my SS chicks from BUS. There is actually about a dozen in this brooder tub, they all tucked in and I was able to get these two. One for sure is a blue, now these two chicks are from the same hatch as the yellow one I posted earlier. About the same size.
They look like Blues to me.
