Well I doubt any of you "old birds" were around then, My great gandpappy passed 3 years back and he was born in 1911... he never got onboard with the "on-line gig"... well that could have been because he resembled Uncle Scrooge and thought comps were a rip off. Anyhow... I still think that people arfe insane to spend that much money on a chicken. Of course thr animal market is always up and down. Arabian Horses were worth gold in the 70's all thier stock was tied to the oil market.... market crashed and burned... so did the price of the horse. My babies would be untouchable price wise is it ever compaered to that again.... but that hes value was the equivalent of those expensive horses in the 70's.... still insane...... did I make sense? I'm tired... lol

arabian horses were a tax shelter for the uber rich back then...i know, i worked for lowe arabians for 6 years, he imported aramis , wayne newton bought that stallion named his farm aramis arabians..on and on...they bought those horses, used them as a full write off..still love those horses..living artworks..i cant imagine any chicken worth 10 grand....it is a little crazy to imagine having that kind of money to just throw around...im wondering what the reason was..

Jim,
Get the facts straight. He sold a pen of 5 birds for $7,500 and was offered at first $2,500 for the hen then was offered $3,000 and then finally turned down $5,000 for "Peggy" the hen. This fellow won at Madison Square Garden and the Crystal Palace in England a feat that now can never be repeated.. Don't understand why his accomplishments are being ridiculed here.

good for the guy... I'm ridiculing the buyer not the seller.... its a lot of money for a chicken... thats all.

I love Arabians too, I have 3. My filly is 3 now and hes astounding bloodlones and a face to die for, fast as lightning. Her back is short even for an Arab, I think that where she gets the tucker for the speed. Down the line from Naborr, her papa is an old guy. Comet, Bask, Aladdin, and a few more big names. Negatiw.... can't remember the others. SHe's stuborn about the trailer though. I had my son 3 months after she was born and didn't get her in there young enough. I still doubt she'd sell in this economy.... plus I'm kind of attached now.

No pictures of the new chick, kids got in and he got out.....

If you read the article on the club site you would have known that the buyer was rich and trying to improve the quality of living for people from the country she originated from Poland but lived in Switzerland.

here is the page about peggy the 10 grand white orp..for those whos eyes can see the print.from the standard bred orpington book. the price paid for chicks still stands as a record today. I beleive it says the 7,500 was depositied in keller straus bank account. but i might need better glasses..it was as big as im allowed to make it .

They look like they were marble statues..they do have a beautiful face and eye.elegant neck..they require a lot of understanding and are a great riding partner when handled the right way..but Im a warmblood person..grew up with the warmblood breeders..still have one kicking around..thou hes getting old now..im 5/8 so a little overwhelming for the arabians, thou im fairly thin so they didnt mind totting me around ..we had more polish and egyptian imports that I could count, farazdac, senefro, bask sons, clarion call was an import..but that was a time right when they could no longer use them as a shelter so the sales plumeted..the arabian horse times used to be thick, hores were well promoted, now things are very different.. it was kind of a surreal world back then, water fountians greeted you as you pulled in the driveway in the middle of a saltflat desert..like an oasis. I thought this is both bizzar and beautiful,,I ued to get paid 80.00 per warmblood to bodyclip ..I did 3 a day..wound up doing arab horses too..doing the warmbloods was like bodyclipping a school buss some of them were massive..could zip through the arabians thou.

I dont think anyone today would pay that kind of money for a chicken..there isnt any reason to..i suppose the importing long journey on ship chance of the chicken dying on the journey was a consideration.. who really knows why that price....maybe someday we will find out the answer to that.

what did you mean kids got in chick got out?
