Purple Orpington. Not kidding. One of my young pullets in the black pen is just not black. I dont know if it is the melanizers or what. She is shiny but she looks brown purple color. Here is a photo

Here are some siblings and as you can see they are black

And BTW these are never in the sun. They are in a covered pen and I let out late in the evening when the yard has shaded.

Wilds you should try to make wheatan orps with some of those project orps you have. some of them already have some of the color and you could get some wheatan marans to cross in and improve the coloring.

I am not sure how it happened, BamaChicken, but that really is purple I see in those feathers- how beautiful!! I hope you can do something with that- any possibilities?
