I like to place my pullets in with old hens, too. Teaches them the ropes of the coop. My best matings have been from Cock/pullet and cockerel/hen matings. I still do not like using an aggressive male, nice or not. Orpingtons should be gentle, not aggressive. An over eager cockerel is understandable. But aggression towards others in the flock or humans should never be tolerated.

I did have a Buff Orpington bantam cock (33 oz) take on a Jersey Buff turkey tom (30# +/-) back in 1986. Finally had to separate them. Never had an aggressive act out of him until I bought this quad of turkeys. My current Splash Orpington cockerel does not like the Narragansett turkey tom either. Can not house the two together or the tom will starve. Took me a couple of days to see that the tom roosted in the day and came down for food/water at night. So I kicked him off the roost one day and the Splash jumped him. 30#+ tom ran from a chicken! Relocated the Splash cockerel to the BBS breeding pen. He stood up to an old Blue Orpington cock for about 2 seconds and ran for cover. The older hens also put him in his place. No fights now, but he is a lot gentler with the others and with us humans.

In other breeds, I tend to observe the males aggressive towards the hens are also more aggressive towards my children.
