Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Thank you ! Wait until all the crimson clover blooms. This year I WILL get good photos. Maybe the bunnies will join in too.
Deep 24k. gold on a crimson and green background will be breath taking. I viewed the photos on your profile, and am deeply taken by their beauty. It must be an amazing experience to see them in person.

Last year about this time, I realized that I miss my Orps. and my quest for finding a breeder in N.Ca. ensued. The local farm & feed store had Orp. pullets, where I had to ask what breed they were, and was disappointed to hear that they were Orps. They looked nothing like the Orps. I've had in the past. During the summer, I was able to find a breeder which I was ecstatic about, but, yet again, when I saw his -grocery bag brown- birds, had difficult time holding my tears back. It was a 41/2 hr. long trip with sad ending. Oh, no, I did not buy any. Well, they were sweet birds, but not what I have been looking for. Buff birds of your quality is very rare.

So many people who think they own real BOs come here, and just stare at the birds. "What are those ?" is the usual question. It is such a shame that the hatcheries are producing those small, off colored birds with questionable temperaments. My birds come up to greet people. That scares some people who have had bad experiences with Roos, due to my birds' huge size. Once I have picked up a Roo, and visitors have stroked that huge gold bird, they relax, and just enjoy. Watching this flock ranging feeds my soul daily. I feel so blessed to have them.

One of the first things I did this morning was to get on the thread, to look at your photos for a while, measure the ratio between your boy, and the girls, then ran out to look at my young adult, blue Orp. girl to help me visualize how big he is. Oh, my, Aveca, you have a black turkey rather than a black Orp! Also, what I have noticed is: his body is almost as wide as he is tall. I am in love with your giant, gentleman, black Orp! I have the biggest soft spot for black, and buff Orpingtons; as well as some other colors. The first reason is their temperament, which is followed by their conformation. What good is it to have a beautiful animal with nasty, untrustworthy character? Orpingtons have the best of both desired qualities.

I love the way your articles are written; characters comes to life.. Ohhh, the cages you have built are much more than OK., they are beautiful! I think the men were snickering out of jealousy seeing a woman with capable hands. Flowery cover is a clever background drop. Oh, do you have more photos of him? If you do, would you please post some? I am one of those people who loves the combs, and wattles of the chickens. The girls' wattles look like small, red rose pedals, and the boys' comb reminds of a king's crown, and their wattles, an exotic orchid..

Not to worry, Aveca. They weren't born knowing either. ;)

I have moved back to Newport, TN to teach ag till schools out. This is where I retired 3 years ago. One of the ag teachers quit and they was in a bind. I got a place where I lived in Oklahoma to keep my big buffs and I brought my bantams with me. I had several pens at school when I taught here and it worked out nice. I had to give all the chicks away I had hatched this year, will be a little lean showing this fall but the bantams will be OK. The big guys hatched out late will never get big enought for fall. Just have to do better next year.

Don... glad to see you found your way back on here :) Hey you got birds coming your way.. don't worry they won't sound like Yankee doodles either..... cuz I will be talking to them every day :)

Bella got her self into two fights today, one of them i dont blame her for trying, the other made me think shes crazy! no one below that hen messes with her, even Bellas mother refused to give back up on that one! She might have stood more of a chance against her if she didnt hit her head off the feeder practically nocking herself out. A for the first one, it was sooo sneeky, she first started pecking the food off the hens beak and the hen liked it and got all relaved and closed her eyes then after 10 seconds Bella just grabbed a hold of her comb and give it a good pull. Im glad the other hen won she didnt deserve to win, it was too sneaky. Bella has some serious issues, ive never had a hen who gets into a fight (usually more than one) a day!!
