Lovely girl; she looks so sweet and fluffy.

Bella got her self into two fights today, one of them i dont blame her for trying, the other made me think shes crazy! no one below that hen messes with her, even Bellas mother refused to give back up on that one! She might have stood more of a chance against her if she didnt hit her head off the feeder practically nocking herself out. A for the first one, it was sooo sneeky, she first started pecking the food off the hens beak and the hen liked it and got all relaved and closed her eyes then after 10 seconds Bella just grabbed a hold of her comb and give it a good pull. Im glad the other hen won she didnt deserve to win, it was too sneaky. Bella has some serious issues, ive never had a hen who gets into a fight (usually more than one) a day!!

I hope Bella and everyone else is fine. Sounds like she is a handful & keeping you quite busy with her antics. I had no idea that the chickens, specially Orps., would go beyond just a bit of pecking..My! it must be like looking after room full of 2yr. old kids.

Good Morning, Dragon Lady,

You have made a comment referring to an Orp.'s chest. It would really help a novice such as myself, if you please elaborate as to what a desired " deeper and rounder chest" is. If my birds have not so deeper and/or rounder chest, is it an easily correctable fault, or is it so difficult that it would take almost a life time to see the improvement?

At what age do you consider a stud chicken, and a brood chicken as adults? What is a good age one can have good idea if they are developing correctly? My birds are babies who are almost 5wks. old. but, it is never too early to learn, and also would help me make the correct decisions in the future. Is there any literature which you would recommend?
