Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

No orp meets have been placed at the ABA National, I would think a District meet would be in order. I will call the director for that area and get him to approve it. I don't think the district meet has been placed. I don't know how Johnny would know, he's not a UOC member.

Hey Don, nice of ya to pop in and set the record strait. I know there are alot of newbies to the Orp world who would love to attend even if they do not enter. I would hate to have people making plans for this Dec only to find out they were going by bad info. I had a blast at Crossroads. I wished more BYCers would have gone to Crossroads to see what real APA Orps look like. Most all of the best breeders do not frequent this site. So, many would not know what our APA EXHIBITION Buffs really look like.
FYI Dragon I have LARGE FOWL ORPS. I have no intention to drive to Knoxville this coming Dec for a Bantam Orp meet. So are you going to enter any of your Orps as bantams at the ABA NATIONAL meet in Knoxville? lol

As you know, Johnny is a past ABA president. However, he has not been well due to neck surgery. He told me that he had talked to Jeff , and suggested I go back to the shows, particularly Knoxville in 2013 and 2014. I even asked about meets for Orps at an ABA Nat. He said they would have Orp meets as Knoxville always has a good LF entry.

We all hope you go to Knoxville this fall and have a blast with all the BYCers. Nothing like a 6 hour road trip to a good show for some fun.
My plans are the same as they were as last year. I go to 4 to 5 shows. 4 of them are 2,000 plus bird entry shows. One is the Ohio Nationals, IF my birds are not in molt. Even then I did drive to the OHIO Nationals this year and did not enter any birds. But I am not going to a show in Knoxville in Dec of 2013. My quotta of shows I attend and participate in will be filled.
For most I am a breeder first who does go to a few shows. I am not a breeder who sells to make a buck. I help out my fellow Orp friends if they ask. Very few are in my line for birds from me. Only 3 have hinted they like anything. One is my good friend and lady who gave me my Buff Sports. She has 2 more Buff Sport pullets to give me here within a few weeks. As I promised her she can use any of my Buff cockerels in her breeding program. To me that is an honor. Since her main Buff cock has won the Indiana State Fair Junior Poultry Show 2 years in a row. This is who I am and traveling across the country for a medium size show is not what I do.

I just hope everybody has a great time at the shows this year..thats what its all about..Fun, promotion for youth and for the breeds ..and I always have a great time..doesnt matter if I win or loose..It gives me perspective about what I want or need to do next , the people are always so much fun...

I kind of dont like the tone of us against them..there is no us against them ..its all of us..and promoting orps that some had been on the endangered list to the point where odd breeds had to be added just to save them..maybe this is in part the reason why...not worth arguing about and.its just Not that big of a deal..

I'm sure they will have a APA Meet. Won't be a national, but either district, state or special. There will be alot of large birds there along with water fowl and turkeys.

They always have a big APA entry. I love the Knoxville show. I used to show there twice a year. Some interesting motels in that town though. Be careful.

Funny you should mention the motel issue in Knoxville. I grew up in and around Knoxville and if the show is going to be at the TVA fairgrounds then yes you need to be very careful where you book your stay. I would suggest Strawberry Plains Pke area (its exit 398 off of I-40). Its a nice area very close to the fair grounds with several motels and 6-10 restaurants ranging from nice sit down to fast food. I would not stay in Downtown Knoxville (the old city part) but these are just my opinions.

Thanks for the heads up good to know for future reference..always helps to know if your traveling.helps to have somone in the area ...I bring my own mobile home..somone said the bed buggs are rampant here and there in these motels...and not in one particular area so everybody needs to take care about that too..

You are welcome. We used to have a nice KOA campground at exit 407 off I-40 but its long gone. I am sure there are others close because the fair grounds are on the east side of Knoxville and the biggest tourist attraction areas are Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg (which includes Dollywood) and all these are accessed from exit 407. In other words the fairgrounds in Knoxville are located off exits 392 & 394 so it would be 15 miles or so to exit 407.

ETA: sorry this read like Dollywood is in Gatlinburg but its in Pigeon Forge.
