Jack Patterson was there and he said the better Australorp cockerel was left at home. Jack denies it but Doug said Jack taught him everything about raising, breeding and showing birds. For those who do not know about Jack, he is an old "Stringman" from 20 to 30 years ago. At one time Jack and his dad would haul around 800 to 900 birds to shows

They don't. They attend like state fairs where they pay 5 placings and they will bring 5 for each class. Those guys made some money. On the way they would sell birds and you could get them after the last show. Wilber Stauffer was the last of the big stringman. He always showed alot of birds but he had alot of good ones. They might be a little rough in the feather, had alot of miles. He was a APA and ABA judge and knew his stuff about birds. He is gone know but alot of show folks remember him.

Wilbur was a gent, and a wonderful mentor to me. He and Doris pulled into Knoxville at the Tenn. Valley Fair one year with 1200 birds.That blows the mind. I bought some very good birds from him over the years, and he would walk me down all the triple decked aisles at Knoxville, and have me judge birds in breeds I didn't have."What is the bird used for? How should it be built to function?" You can't buy that sort of a learning experience.I'm proud to say that Wilbur Stauffer was my friend and mentor.

wow I wish I had some one like that help me. I really have no idea what I am looking for. I look at everyone elses pics and then compare my birds. If I post pics can you all help me figure out what is good and what is bad about my orps? I have buff and black. My black are only about 2 month old and my buff are about 8 months.

The black orps hatched 9/12 and the buffs hatched in march/april. I need to get some better pics of their profiles so you can see their lines better.
