Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

That white plastic thing hanging at the top of the coop is a ACU-RITE for temp. tells me what the temp is inside & outside along with humidity. Seems to work good, I get nervous and have to getup put my glasses on to check their temp then I can go back to sleep knowing their ok. I know I shouldn't worry about them but the wind is awful off the water front, animals can't get away from wind and it's a killer so that's why I check...so far so good, never went below 37 in there and they do have nest boxes only you don't see them in the picture I sent only one side of the coop.

Hey Viv & Renie....here are some pics that I can't upload on the other site. I'll have to get better shots but at least you can see what I'm talking about when I talk about my girls. James did this all for me....didn't he do a great job? It's all put together with bolts so we can add on or widen in the future. They have a mix of peat and sand/dirt in their roofed pen yard section. Coop never goes below 35 and shuts off at 45 degrees in winter. Pen has lights and coop has heat lamp and a light! Has plexi-glass under the coop and plastic covering the wire hardware cloth so it's windproof. We live off water and it can get real bad for wind here so when it gets real bad we hang a orange heavy duty tarp off the kennel fencing you see in front of the pen area. It was -11 this morning and the coop was 37 degrees inside...all were safe!
Nice fat girls! Very nice HyVal!

I know this is last minute, but does anyone have any Standard Bred LF Buff Orpington chicks available anytime soon? I meant to ask this a month ago but kept forgetting, I have a 4-H family near me that is looking for Buff Orpingtons to show. Any help would be appreciated.

It depends on where she comes from, some show lines don't lay until they're 6 months, or even older.
We are in winter here does that mean she won't start laying or will start to lay and then stop? Sorry for all the questions as you can probably tell these are my first chickens!

the lack of light and cold affect egg laying..by spring you will start seeing eggs ..light reflects in the back of the eye and triggers the natural egg cycle to increase...its natures way of producing lots of offspring when the natural foods are pleantiful...

sometimes they start than stop laying just the body becoming acoustomed to the routine..and going through period of stress or dark days..if something scares chickens, they can quit laying eggs for a while..just a natural reaction ..

Meet Cissy. The newest addition to the BYC Orpington family. She's a Gold Laced. Her brothers and sisters will hatch next week so she's in my bosom. Or the Ritz if you ask my husband.
