She decided to go broody so I threw her some eggs. I've got no experience with broody hens, is there anything I need to do this first go round? Or will she instinctively do what she needs to?

Also, Mr. Splash is growing in red feathers on his neck?! I thought splash was 2 blue genes, and that there wasn't any red in there? Is he worth keeping?

He's such a sweet boy, but I haven't seen any other splashes with the red neck :(

That is a big show. I hope our UOC Secretary was able to take a few pics.
I still have a Britt hen who has the nicest shade of Buff. I had her in with my Buff Sport cock. Now I am thinking of moving her out and put her with one of these cockerels I have. As it turned out my best type and size Buff cockerels all have that straw color. Almost like a lite blonde. IF I do what Dan H. says, I take the one who is a few shades to lite to one who is the deep dark Red Buff. More of the offspring will tend to be closer to the color desired. And ofcourse this Britt hen's color is even.
**lildinkem- what is "Buff Sport"?..still learning, please excuse me.

okay, Thank you! This is a "recognized" color?..could you "show" this type?..

There are only 4 varieties accepted into the APA. Black, Blue, Buff and White. Many of new varieties have been either brought into the USA or made here in the USA. Some of these type of varieties can be useful in helping the existing accepted vaieties gene pool. A Buff Sport can be taken to a White and make more Whites. Many will say the best examples of Orpingtons in the USA and even in UK are the Buffs. More good breeders are working on Buff. So it is a big help to the Whites to bring in Buff traits to better that variety. Then once you have the desired traits into these Whites you can breed White to Black and take that offspring back to Black to better the Black genetics and then eventually Blue.
According to the Sec of the UOC. She seen Jim Sallee's Buff cock that won Stockton, and said he had to be at least 14 lbs. And the pullet was at least 10 lbs. This is what I would like to breed into our Whites. That type and size.
