Oh how beatiful orpington pics here is. Orpington has stolen my heart and I took orpingtons because they are so good at incubating and caring for chikcs. Here are my orpingtons

I think most of you know I am new to Orps (less than a year) and I have what very well maybe a dumb question. How do you keep the butts on the Orps clean? I had to undertake the job of trimming a couple of poopy butts today.

I feed either TSC layer or Purnia Layena.
I give them scratch (Purnia Scratch grains with black oil sunflower seeds added): a small amount in the mornings and some in the evenings to get them back up so I can allow my old flock some free range time.
Sometimes I use white bread as lure to get them to go up.
I am just now getting to the harvesting point on my mealworm farm so they have had very little of the mealworms.

I do not plan on showing any of my Orps so trimming the feathers is not a big deal but this is not something I want to do. I want to also add this is not something I would have done had it not been absolutely necessary for the health and well being of the bird. thank you

Baby wipes help to clean it off..and having a dusting bin helps to keep it off. I have some wet bums, not bad, however with Fermenting the feed and adding Calf Manna on top helps keep the urates a bit firmer. It is hard to keep those thick skirts clean.

Thanks. They have dust bathing areas and I forgot to say I do give them Calf Manna.

The ABA National will be at Knoxville this fall, 2013. The Orpington National will be Dec, 2014 at the APA National at Knoxville. The 2013 Orp National was in CA last Jan.

Johnny Batson called me, and told me that there were Orp meets, not Orp Nationals, at the ABA Nat. this December. Is this NOT planned ? They always have a big APA entry. I love the Knoxville show. I used to show there twice a year. Some interesting motels in that town though. Be careful.

No orp meets have been placed at the ABA National, I would think a District meet would be in order. I will call the director for that area and get him to approve it. I don't think the district meet has been placed. I don't know how Johnny would know, he's not a UOC member.
