Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

I just snapped a few quick pics today...This Orp chick just turned 6 weeks and the gender is still not hugely evident to me.

For comparison (not a great profile pic and I know apples and oranges...but) here is an almost 5 week old Buff Rock that screams COCKEREL

Thoughts????

I love them at this age...too cute with those big feet, and not quite sure of themselves, innocent look..

So happy to hear Bella is back to her old self again! And that baby is just so adorable

Thanks! :)
Think about it Johnn. If you are more than 4 feet tall an Orp cock bird really can't get your face. They simply get too heavy. Never had one even try, but I'm 5'9". All my buff boys are pussycats.
It's when I bend over for the feeders that I'm worried about one getting my face. I'm quite scared of cockerel now after Asparagus. I was thinking about just not getting one again but I'm sick of buying hatching eggs for unexpected broodies already, so I need one!
Precious wee one

Pullet on top ! Look at the difference in wattles and combs. See the arch where the comb starts at the beak on the cockerel? Pullets don't have that.

Thanks! :)

You're sort of comparing apples and oranges here. Bella hadn't finished fuzzing up when you took her photo. About cockerels.....Orps aren't flighty like some other breeds, and the males are much more laid back.

I will find a better pic later! Hmmm, I will think about it.

Johnn, I've been busy and not able to keep up with all the threads I like to follow here but i have kept up with this one and I LOVE that you're back with the pictures and stories! Bella being her old self could just mean that she feels better from all your care that she hates you for. I know your Orp hens seem crazy but they are not aggressive to you, are they? The roosters aren't either. I've raised 5 roosters so far and my buff orp is the sweetest of any I've seen. He is a love. Listen to Dragonlady, get a nice buff boy for those beautiful girls!

Thanks! :) and my Orp ladies are fine with me, they Bella's mother is one of my favouraites. But that doesn't mean I wont get a aggressive cockerel :/

Well Daisy has pood all over herself and her remaining egg! Luckily the chick was spared! She is making a excellent mother so far, she loves the baby! She is on the floor with her remaining egg and I will give it until Monday to hatch. My dog stuck his head through the pop hole and she lunged forward for him but luckily for the dog, I pulled him out! I decided to dust her so thats why her comb is so pale on the pic alone. She went crazy and it went everywhere!
