Bama,
Can't wait till my chicks from you mature.
GAChknGirl,
The comb don't affect him for breeding. This happens a lot in the North from frostbite.

Well our 3 hens we just got a couple weeks ago were laying everyday according to the origional owners but only one is laying almost everyday for us

we also have 5 barred rocks that are going to be laying soon!!!

Pretty funny, I had an EE have her side cut open from my Roo's spurs ( since I dremeled down those spurs ), and she is laying since I brought her inside the house to heal. I do not use artificial lites for my birds, and just the lites on in the house at nite has her laying. Try lites IF you like to have them lay more.

tdgill,
Love your rooster sunset. That's one for framing. I'm in MD too. Have two buff orps but no pics on this laptop to post. They are currently my best egg layers.

I am proud of my first Lavender Orp. His name is "Flash"

sorry can't figure out the picture thing, but if you look in my Avatar there he is!!
he is just a sweet boy!

thanks for the compliment :) and hello fellow marylander. where abouts?

I also want to point out how absolutely wonderful it seems that orps are as far as temperment. So docile and sweet!

ETA: a couple of days ago i was laying on my swing enjoying the fall sunshine and my buff orp hen jumped up on my leg. She then started sidestepping up my thigh and paused, then up to my belly and paused again (like she was being sneaky or not wanting to wake me up hahah) my chest (now she's looking me in the eye) until she had creeped up onto my neck literally and her little fluffy self was against my cheek. I had to turn my head to the side. And as if that wasnt close and snuggly enough, she then leans into my cheek to get the sun on her underside and enjoy the warm rays...I'm sure it was a site. It probably looked like I had a chicken head. hahaha.
