Here is my Winston little splash pullet. I can't remember how old she is. She was hatched at the same time yours hatched.

They are so pretty to me.
This a favorite 6 month old pullet out of Charlie. She is very large and fluffy. I love looking at her. Can't wait to see how she looks in a few months

Beautiful Julie. That blue Charlie pullet is very nice-lots of fluff. And look at all those Winston babies! I've got to get new pics tomorrow of all of my Winston babies. I've got one Splash, but he's a cockerel. They're growing out nicely. I'm thrilled with them!

I would love to see some of you chicks Paula.
This is another favorite pullet of mine. she has great lacing

Hopefully she will have the size to be show material

Have a few questions for the Orpington fans here...

1) I know the breed is big, but how fast do they flesh out? At 4 or 5 months old are they gangly and boney or are they fleshed out and pretty solid?

2) Any colors slower to mature or lack the size because of their color?

Thank you

Jared - My birds are always nice and plump and filled out by 4-5 months. They are not finished growing of course, but they are way past the gangly stage at that age. I only have BBS orps and have not found any of those to be slower to fill our and mature.

These 2 pullets are 7 weeks old in this picture. THey are already filling out nicely.

Here are a couple that are 3 months old in these pictures. Far from scraggly and gangly.

Julie - The first picture of a Winston cockerel looks really good. He looks to have a lot of fluff coming in down the legs. That little splash pullet is beautiful. She definitely has a lot of English type and such a sweet little face !!! Be sure to send me pictures of her periodically as she grows - would love to see what she looks like when she gets older. L&C's little girl is gorgeous. And she also has the sweetest little face !! And the rest are just beautiful !! I'm going to try to get some pictures made today and I'll post them. It's supposed to rain (fingers crossed it does), so might not get them today.

Paula - You definitely need to take some pictures and post them !! I'm really anxious to see how your chicks from me are growing out !!

Jared I would say color has nothing to do with it. It is what has been developed as far as type goes as to what they will look like at 4 to 5 months.

Here is a less than 3 month old bird and you can see how broad he is

Another out of my black pen. He is very young but very stocky and broad

I cull any that are not broad with lots of depth as that is what I am breeding for as well as size. Legginess and long narrow tails are not what I am looking for in my Orps. No matter what breed you have there is always culling to do to improve to and keep a standard of what you are looking for.

If you look at the pictures above you will see some 5 month olds and some younger. Hope that helps.

Here is a group of 4 month olds

Here are my Winston babies-courtesy of Joy(who jumped through a few hoops to make sure I had some of these). Thanks Joy!
These are not the greatest pics, but only makes me want to get out there and get better ones. For some reason, these guys are so darn hard to photograph. Won't sit still for a minute!

Ok, so let's play "Find the Pullet". Good luck-look closely. There aren't many in this group, I'm afraid...

These are all 8 weeks old in these pics

And these are my first 3 babies. They're right at 3 mos old in this pic. They absolutely refused to be photographed, so this is the best I could get.

I promise I'll get better pics. I really hate bad chicken pics.
