Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Ackkkk!!!! No I am not coming now. She is huge and what is up with the spurs? Serious? I thought only roos had spurs? Do you think she is going to let #16 near her?

Actually I think she has a flirty butt.

Well technically they all have spurs but the girls' just never grow. Hers and her mama's did. She beats the snot out of the second in command, EE roo on a daily basis. I think once I have another big orp boy, Lancelot or one of the babies, that will lay down the law with her, she will be fine.

She just like her men big and strong...not small and stupid!

I mean he called them all over excitedly for a treat....it was a red plastic cup....they were not impressed.

yes the idiot! He has called them for the plastic cup, rocks, a ping pong ball, the cat toy and a spray hose nozzle. They come running in this heat and see that mess and man they hate him now. They ignored him the first 5 days or so after Thor died...then they came running to his stupid stuff and now they ignore him again and beat up on him...they will jump on him in groups if it is my smaller girls.

I came home one day to find 9 of my girls in the woods....and him lounging in the front yard. Yes he is headed out of here when I get a new boy grown up. Thor would flip in his grave is he knew his women were running amuck. He never let them go near the woodline and would go bring them back...even on my command if he did not see them and I did.

Severus is a Stupid boy!

Thanks, I have found that I really like the orpington hens because they take such good care of the babies. She has some how house trained her self she stands up when she is ready to come out of the brooder to go potty, and then waits at the back door to be let back in. I pushed her out though cause it got crowded with 5 babies plus her and she did her job of teaching them to scratch for food. It was funny she would peck their heads then peck the ground she kept doing that till they started eating on their own.I figured she sat a long 3 weeks it was time she had a break and enjoyed the weather but I think she liked being a moma better than anything else. When we let them take them outside for a little play time she hovers over them if the other chickens come near she puffs up like a balloon........its very neat to watch.

I think broody mama's are amazing...the babies seem smarter and more adjusted than human raised. She teaches them self sufficiency that we humans cannot. I love watching a mama with her clutch outside...it is awesome.

Well I am glad to hear that about her being a good mama. All of my broodies except one have killed some or all of their chicks. Except one cochin...

That was horrible. I had her in a pen and put food and water right in front of her. I kept checking on her everyday to see if she needed more. About 3 weeks into it I noticed that she hadn't moved for days or even blinked (you know how they go motionless when they set)

Well, I poked her to get a response and she was dead! I don't get it. She had water and feed right there but she must have gotten so broody she didn't eat or drink.

Probably too much info, sorry!
