This is our orpington Sunny. She's not a show chicken or anything, but she is very much loved because of her exceptionally sweet personality! She's even sweeter than the cochins we have and is my younger son's favorite!

7 month old Lucy & Ethyl - hatchery stock but are they the sweetest

The Buff sisters are never apart...

All the Orpingtons I see on this page, can be shown. W0W, nice girls gals. A couple of you can easily win the breed at good quality APA shows.
I just sent in my $57 for my 19 Large Fowl entries. 16 are Orpingtons. And none will be over 8 months old. All three of my Bamma girls will go. And not the young man. however, his cousin son of DOC (L A R S) will go.
I know we want to win, but the important task is raising more like or better then what we have, and an APA judge's eye is always best to refer too.
I hope you that have the extreme high quality will enter one every now and then. I know once you do you will be hooked. GREAT BREED, and GREAT BIRDS everyone!

Northern California, at least from what I've been seeing, does not have alot of chances for entering birds, maybe I'm not looking in the right spots? Gotta go, I'm hatching!

LOVE the pic of them "cleaning up". Dropped food never lasts long around here either! My younger son WANTS to take his Sunny to a "bird show" but since we have no rooster and we'll never have chicks from her I don't know what the point would be. I'm only distantly familiar with dog showing and know nothing about bird shows. Are there shows where kids can just enter a couple of their "favorites" for fun?

I don't know IF you heard of Walt Leonard here on BYC (fowlman01). He is involved in APA and I think said he lives in Santa Rosa. I remember him saying he is in wine country. I bet he is a perfect person to ask where you live. IF you like the idea of showing. Some don't, others do. And find out what you need to have done to enter. Each state prolly has different requirements. Here in Indiana, it isn't as strict as other states from what I here. Hope you raise them and they turn out extroadinary. And show them. Remember a pretty bird always seems to get more attention. Enjoy your birds!

thanks, well it might be fun with the 50%-75% english BBS orps I'm hatching now!

Cheryl, you just may have a super great quality bird. The breeders who's lines are in your birds can make them. It is genetic gambling. Many who line breed will not go outside their line cause of the unpredictable nature of those breedings. They do make gains in the direction of where they want their flock to go. BUT, those who do routinely mix lines, can make huge strides to the look they want when they do mix high quality breeder's lines. The trade off is having to breed much higher numbers for the better look. And again, we as breeders are artists. Are birds are the canvas, and we each can have the same genetic lines, but by selective breeding I bet in 5 or 10 years everyones birds will be noticeably different. After 5 years their the Cheryl line of Blues and Black Orpingtons. have fun with them. You are a chicken god to them. lolol
