Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Just got an email with numbers from the show we just did this weekend. There were 579 birds total. The open show in which my orps won grand and reserve had 10 birds. That much I knew. The junior show that my daughter had sone of our 16 week olds in and one of yhe pulleys took reserve English had 19. Wow. I thought there were only like 8-9. Not sure where the others were hiding or what they. Were but makes that prize look much better!! A 4 month old beating out 17 others? Woohoo!!

This is my Buff Orpington rooster, Butterball. He is 22-23 weeks old. After rehoming all the roosters except one, well two if the cochin is a rooster. I had to pull out the Barred Rock rooster today because Butterball has beaten him up badly the last two days. So, will be looking for BR hens and building a second coop. Will also be looking for BO hens.

Would you tell me what you think of Butterball. We won't be showing so my chickens are just for us. But I would like to get some hens that match him in the future. He is huge by the way. Seems like every time I look at him he is bigger. He was also quite angry with the BR and has been for several days. Hated to put one alone but rather that than to get beat up daily for not minding his manners. Believe the BO is top dog.....just hoping the cochin minds its manners or ends up laying an egg.

I like him. Nice comb, color, broad chest for a 5ish month ole. Nice tail, just watch him and see what he looks like in two months. A nice Big Buff Boy!

Thanks....he is really big....big and round.

He is just starting to get fiesty.....thus moving the BR roo.....I think he is really pretty and was quite surprised at how large he has gotten!

My plan is to find two girls for the BO and/or two for the BR...maybe.

Butterball is one bossy rooster...hoping having taken out the other roo that he will be calmer and the rest of the flock can have some peace.

Would like to find a couple of hens around the same age or a little older.

I love the avatar!
Your right. I was told to thin my number of cockerels down in my pens when they hit 7 months old. And your two maybe evenly matched and constantly testing the other. And that may make them more territorial. I see alot of nice BR's on the Heritage breed thread here on BYC. I am sure you can go through that thread and pick up some legendary BR breeder's names to contact. Plus, tons of good old pics to look at.
Depending where you are at, I am sure you can find some great Buff breeders too.

I am in Arkansas and there are lots of breeders around here. I am going to start actively looking for hens for the two. Rehomed one of the BR roos and those folks are loving him. Got some chicken math going on here and a husband out of state working. Just told him tonight I was going to start on the 'new coop'. He told me I was worrying too much about a bunch of chickens. I just want them to be happy and lay me a bunch of eggs.....lol....and I seem to need another coop! And he left all his tools and what's a girl supposed to do!

Thanks for the comment about my avatar. That is 'Oh, My Kitty, My Cat'. She is a bright light in my life. My favorite pictures of her are in front of that big window. She spends a lot of time there.
