This is a "hatchery" or "Production" Buff Orpington. his color is fair and he has an Orpington sort of type with white shanks and skin. Yet when you compare to a Standard bred Orpington, you will see the difference. If you just wnat some pretty Buff backyard birds, he will do. if you wish to show one day, get some exhibition quality. I have had both. I prefer those bred to teh Standard of Perfection!

Here is some of Buffbeauty's birds. You can see the difference.

I believe they are pinkish yellow color... Why?

Because that 2nd to the last pic you sent... the chicken almost looked like it had a beard... but I an no expert that's for sure. Buff Orpingtons should have white feet. Can look pinkish too just not black, blue, ect.

Yea... they are like yellowish. I have a roo that has yellow legs and bright red patches....

And, yes, I did notice that the ones with the tuft on their head have some sort of a beard... I didn't think that they were sopposed to but, since they are simply pets and producers, I wasn't too worried. I am just curious if someone is going to chime in a say that I have mixed breeds! THEN I might be a bit upset.... Not with them (because I want to know the truth) but, with the lady that I bought them from!! LOL

I love those lil pens, but they wouldnt work well here for us during winter.. heres what our birds went through last winter, they dont come out in the snow very often. these days will soon be upon us again in orpsville..

we love the snow to, but hate moving it, its not fun when you have to snow blow 7500 sq feet of snow from the wild pens, then plus all the chicken pens, plus clear the 600' driveway and the rest of the place, but thank goodness we only get a couple good snow falls a year.

We open the pens up once things are cleared but the orps don't seem to care to come out in it, the araucana are much braver and will venture in it a bit, but they don't like it....praying for a mild one this year..

:)Hello all, Just wanted to try my hand at this picture thing....Also if anyone wanted to comment on the quality of my rooster "Midnight", I wouldn't mind at all. (He's just for breeding my little flock not for show). He's a Black Orpington from a breeder and his hatch mates (brother's?) were lav orpington's. If this picture thing doesn't work let me know..... Thanks, Mike

Thanks for the info. I noticed after I started looking into BO's that the color was a little lighter than the one I have and thought that they looked a little weak in the color. I need to look at some pure breed BO's and go from there. "Curly" my Roo is huge and has all the traits of a DB bird you could want, he's big, easy on the girls and will alert the flock when somethings not right. He complains when birds fly over and gives the squirrels hell.

What do you think he's crossed with to bring out that good color? I thought the Bo's I looked at with the faded red color were older birds losing their color but to me they look more on the golden side of the buff color. Am I wrong.

I'm just trying to get good stock to start with and make it better, Thanks for the info.
