Thanks. He was a big boy. Easily 2 times bigger then my cat. I knew the trap was wired for a larger animal to trigger it, this cockerel couldn't. And seeing from the looks of the log I tied the fishline too, this fella was ticked. At first glance all I could see was the dead eaten cockerel. I couldn't believe the trap was triggered and did not see one ticked off Racoon. Well then I seen his butt stuffed into the corner of the coop. He was so big he couldn't hide. I popped him with the Springfield in his butt, that got him to turn around and right in the middle of the triangle innbetween the eyes and the nose. Instantaneous! I carted him off this morning. Really big coon! And should be, he was responsible for 4 or 5 kills of my flock.
I liked how well the coop trap worked I think I am going to reload it again tonite with a lite eyed cockerel who needs to not be a part of the gene pool. This fella may have had a girlfirend.


Look how big this guy was. I have nearly 10 dogs, and trust me this is not going to waste.
Look at his bones. I'll bet Scanner the pup will be gnawing for a month on this guy.

Hello all!
I'm sorry I don't have time to go flipping through your lovely pages here at the moment, but I am getting 15 Buff Orpington female day old chicks in the mail on March 1st and am really excited! I'm not used to big birds (my largest being my Welsummer rooster) and I'm wondering exactly how big these Buff Orpington chicken are. I know they aren't MASSIVE, but I've heard that they ARE bigger than I'm used to. I was wondering if any of you have a picture of your Buff Orps compared to another average laying breed. The greatest help to me would be the image of a BO pullet next to a Barred Plymouth Rock (Standard), Welsummmer, Red Sex Link, or bantam Red Cochin. Those are just a couple of breeds that I have that would help me see their actual size. But, if you don't have any of those other breeds a BO with any other breed right up next to each other would be a great help!! I j=guess I'll be joining this thread within the next couple of months!

Hello all! I only have 1 white hatchery Orpington at the moment, but come may I will be gettting some real beauties from a fellow BYC member. I also just found out today that we may qualify to buy our first house within this year. We will be getting a house with no smaller than 2 acres! Sorry to ramble, my question is,Im trying to find a good website that explains the standards for a perfect Orpington that represents the breed. I want to learn how to become an Orpington breed ambassador((a term I stole from the wonderful world of American Pit Bull Terriers, and their owners love of the breed)). I will have time and space on my hands and cant wait to dabble in the Breeds,Genetics and Showing category! Thanks in advance

Clucky. She's the queen of the coop haha.

Shrimpy. She may not be full orpington. She's really small compared to Clucky(hence the name) and her overall appearance is a little different. I'm thinking she's atleast half though.
