I'm new here and wanted to ask what everyone feeds. I also wanted to say I just bought some Buffs yesterday (12 pullets & 2 roosters). I'm liking them a lot already.

Quote:
Congratulations on your new Buffs!!! Mine are some of my favorite girls.....have never had a roo....(yet).

I feed mine 'Start & Grow' (medicated) as baby chicks in the brooder...........then when I move them outside I change them over to 'Chick-Gro-Lay' (non-medicated) which is a crumble...........then when they start laying I ease them over to 'Layena' which is a pellet. It takes a bit of time for them to accept the pellet form, so I mix the crumble & pellet together. I like the pellet as it is a less wasteful form of feed.

Oh yes.....plus all their treats, ......... scratch, cooked sweet potatoes, kitchen scraps, sprouts, bread, etc.

Good luck with your new Buffs.

I had a person email me looking for black orpingtons to use as a project with her lavender orp rooster. They live on the Eastern Shore in MD. Anyone know any breeders of black orps near there?

I sent them your way as I was told they also wanted buffs and I no longer have any buffs. I gave them a price on my black hens but I guess they didn't like it

Oh well. If they only knew how much work and culling I have in those black beauties!

I totally understand how you feel! They didn't want buffs, but blacks and I'm not selling any of my buffs till this fall. Heck, I'm not allowed hatching until February

I love my buffies! I got them probably 2 1/2 or 3 months ago....

I am STILL waiting for them to lay! The hens are at the LEAST 8 1/2 months old!!

I ADORE my Buff Orp roosters! They are so friendly! They are currently the only breed of roosters that I have! And believe me, they have an incredible attitude compared to the black sexlink that I had for a year. LOL... I tought (sp?) mine to crow when I say their names!

Here are a few pics of them....

Remi, right after I got him, early this summer.

Btw: STILL trying to get rid of them! Just don't have enough hens to go around and they are starting to fight with the head honcho!

And, of course, plenty of the Orp X Comet (sexlink) that I hatched out on August 22nd! I like to call her my little Orpet! LOL...
