I am no expert, I would pick the largest-calmest -would be the easiest to work with when trimming butt feathers & if she decides to go broody, however, I'm not certain she is a pullet, but being quiet good chance. I have Blue Orps & they are still a little skitish (Pullets & Roo) It is good of you to give them away as they sell for $5 per chick & $20 pullets here in KY. Good Luck !

Technically, I am not giving them away... I'm selling them for $10 each. I want them to have a home and not be food, but pullets usually go for $25 and sometimes $35 around here! I can't imagine doing that. My roos I rehome for $5 or if I feel more confident about where they are going then I give them away for free.

This is my Orp we had last year. A stray dog killed her. Now, our proprety is 100% fenced so that never happens again. It was a sad day in our house when she died. She was such a sweet girl. I miss having Orpingtons

#2 looks a little more "roo-ish" to me than the others simply because it appears to have a slightly pinker comb. Although none of them scream rooster to me at this point. Sometimes you can tell by how fast they get their feathers - rooster often feather in more slowly, especially their tails. This is not a fool proof method either though. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Here are my two Blue Orpingtons at 23 weeks:

This is Tonks:

Hard to get pictures of her as every time I try she turns around and just shows me her fluff. Evidently she is very proud of her fluff!

This is Frederick, my daughter's favorite roo:

Fred has no problem with having his picture taken as he is very proud of everything he has! I'll be glad when he has some tail feathers of which to be proud.

The is a saying, "Good things happen to good people".
By being kind to a Fellows Orpington breeder. I have been presented and opportunity that I will most likely not be able to commit too unless I can get my wife to care take for my chicks for 2 days. BUT! IF she will I can meet the legend himself, "BoB" in May. I am already being given another nice opportunity that I will take advantage of. And joined another online Orpington group where, get this, I can be a "MODERATOR". lololol I never thought that would happen. Ofcourse I said "HECK YEAH!"

And by being nice to a very well respected Irishmen, I will be able to pick his mind as well. He has already given me great advice. By using males that have width, but can use more down below on the front half, he suggested I use my fullest depth females. So, I sent him these pics and will see who he likes. I hope there are two or three he will sugest, and then ofcourse I will do as he says. His birds speaks loudly of his wealth of knowledge. Orpington fanatics will unite in this East meets West collaberation.
