We looked at his legs but couldn't find anything wrong with them, so do you think it could be something wrong with his muscles? Oh, and about me mixing up the splash crosses my brain is somewhere else this morning so I apoligize but yes self blue is the same thing as lavender.

no worries, i do the same thing, not enough sleep and too much sun! you'll have to be diagnostic about it, could be a sprain, in which case, theres nothing really yo can do it will heal how it will, same with a fracture. could be a joint issue, or a muscle or even a tendon. i hate to say it, but poke and prod untill you find the tender spot. make sure it doesnt get hastled and pushed around/ trampled by others, and give it time, it should come around.
Good luck
Sib

(self blue/lavender? are we talking about actual lavender, like the lavender gene, or the powder blue that happens with splashes that don't have any/minimal splashing to them? haha)

I guess I'll just leave it to heal on it's own, I think it's a sprain.

Sad news. The hen in this pic was found dead this afternoon, she and one of her chicks was killed by a dog.

I am happy to have two of her chicks in the brooder though, however one of them has a leg injury. It makes me sad though to think that my chicks had to watch there mother fight for their lives and lose, then cry unanswered peeps for hours before being rescued by me. I'm hoping they'll survive, as I have no idea how to treat a broken leg. Any ideas? My BO hen will be remembered.

So very sorry for your loss. I am new to all of this so I have no ideas on how to help the chicks but I'm sure people on BYC will help.
