Im a little stunned that somone did this , must be that they were going to start a battery egg station or something..sad because thier beak is like thier hand, they explore everything with visual and beak. funny cause orpington wouldnt be a big choice for battery hen, maybe a breeding staation , hard to say what the plan was there..

well I kind of have 2 thoughts on that..the breeders hold back the best and sell lot of culls, that being said....ray connor 17 time national champion aussie breeder said in his book, and its a great book, both beginners and experts take away from his wisdome.. that he had a freind who said to him....Ray give me your third worst, and I will come back and beat you in three years....he did just that...won the title away from ray for that year with rays toss aways..if you really know what your looking for you can do that and you really have a knowlege on what will work with what..you can do it being the genes are there.. but sometimes in a box of eggs there is a champion right out of the gate....so for me its a challenge and worth it .. if there were a few breeders and we have a very few that will work with you, I have 2 ..then you can get off and rolling..I had a little devine intervention last year..kevin drove my chicks to me and collected for himself some aussies..so that little champion was in that box.not so little anymore big chunk of chicken...if you can get them to do a hatch for you..even better..

and I had to go look up what trolling meant..im kind of ignorant to all things computer

my freind the pastor romig is a great guy..but he always comes back from judging a show somewhere with things for me things that I dont want..I say as long as your going to calif..can you put out the feelers for this and that..he will come home and say..Ive got some minorcas for you..argh.. I have to tell him, were keeping that big space for the pollet..

the australian orpintons go in this big pasture, the blk orps go in this one and the pollet will be going there right in the middle..

Took this picture of my 3 Orps from shipped eggs and found it cute (or amusing) enough to share.

The 3 Orps were somewhere in the messy 3 week stage, and another week later, they still don't look very sharp.

The BSL is 2 weeks younger than the Orps and I was totally amazed at how the Orps never picked on the baby, and actually snuggle with her to keep her warm. None of my hatchery chicks have ever shown such nurturing.

Being a summer time hatch, with shipped eggs, the hatch rate wasn't the greatest, but I've learned that when my husband says, "I've got paypal money, want to buy something?" I have to move fast before he spends the money on something else. So, at least I have 3 Orps of higher quality than I had before.

I'd never seen a chopped off beak -- too sad!

well, we are getting ready for the NY winter, out winterising everything . the chickens are out grazing in the pasture..its a little cool up here today and windy. so putting up plastic around windows that are facing the north ridge..these guys had thier fill eating around and are so relaxed and happy I took a few pics while waiting for DH to fetch some more staples for the staple gun..they no longer in show ready state ...they helped themselves to some windfall apples. contented
