Gorgeous!!

My daughter jut got to do an on camera interview with P. Allen Smith. She is so stoked that she might get to be on tv. For those that don't know he IS the heritage poultry conservancy and since he's from AR give a lot to our fair. He does a weekly show. Pretty cool. Nice guy.

These are my friends' birds. They raise them and have a display here at the fair so thought I'd share with some of you other mad chicken scientists. Yes they are very disturbing......

Someone asked how this happened and here was my reply:
Well apparently naked necks have a strip of scaleless area that runs down their leg. Dr Keith Bramwell a poultry science reproductive guru friend of mine isolated that gene and then kept crossing to increase the gene and this is end result. Naked chickens. Really weird to see this dinosaur that acts so chicken-ish. Another friend of ours took some and hatched and raised them. Obviously a labor intensive task since they have no feathers.

I want to thank you for sharing those pictures. I want to send them some sweaters.. lol I am sitting here at my comp in the cold woods of New Hampshire.. and just can't help but want to cover those poor babies.. What do they call them??? Nudest??

Ha. Keith was showing me some pics of another friend that has one that she has crocheted sweaters and made little fleece sweaters for it. Right now I think just naked chickens.

Some in Arkansas have started referring to these as "Razorbacks". Dr. Bramwell has done a lot of work on genetics is exhibition type poultry as well. He is also a founding board member of the Heritage Poultry Conservancy.

Hopefully he will bring a display of these to Crossroads!

Congradulations Buffbeauty on your wins. Now on to Crossrooads to beat the big fellows! Be nice to see champion Orpington going to Arkansas! We are bringing a few Buff Orp Bantams, but no large fowl as our fall breeding pens are now set up.
