Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

No Marans. The father in the one with feathered legs is Harold. He has 1/8 Akers Buff Orp, 1/8 Meyer Hatchery Aussie Ameracana looking bird, 1/2 Exhibition Black Orp and 1/8 Speckled Sussex and 1/8 Terry brit Buff Orp which is a Tony Ewert line. Then the Blue Orp mother is great grand daughter of a pair of Blue I got from Bammachicken. Cochin is in there somewhere I figure. Funny how far that trait will be passed on down before you see one with it.

He will most likely be a cull. But I am curious to see how he grows out some. Whether he will have the Lemon Blue look or not. That is what you get with reccessive genes at play.

These are such beautiful chickens! Are they good layers? Do you know about how many eggs they lay per year? Do they lay in the winter months? Are they gentle and good mothers?

I'm not sure what you mean, however while the U.K. shows nice Orpingtons they are not good layers. In fact the magazine mentions that they are far from what they were originally developed for. It's the same with other show breeds.

Many of these were utility breeds bred for meat and eggs not for looking good running around the yard. PP mentions not to get Orpingtons if it's eggs your looking for. It's sad really sad.
