Post Pics Of Orps/ Orpingtons HERE

Nice blacks!

Thank you Vicki.
As you know, it has only been just recently that there has been a new influx of Black Orp blood brought into the USA. When i got started I had bought 5 Black Orp chicks, for $4 each, from Indiana's own Russ Milkey back 4 years ago. It was one of Russ's Black pullets which won BV at the Crossroads show last fall. Outta the 5 I got I lost 4 to a racoon attack the day I received a quad of show worthy Blacks from one of the very best Black breeders in the country. I had lost 3 of the 4 I got from her. And being one of the nicest people in the Orp world here in the states, she reloaded me with another trio. Just last week I lost one of her best hens she sent me to the heat. BUT, like what all good breeders do, I hatched every darn egg from her Blacks this season, and this Black pullet is one of them. And thankfully Julie Bachelor also helped me out with some hatching eggs 2 years ago. So, I have been dedicated to making BBS's ever since.
Interesting story about this nice lady. I origianlly met on Craigslist, a super nice fella who had some Doug Akers Buff Orps. Larry offered them to me. And at the time I said no. My friend with the Black Orps said you call him back and make sure you get them Buffs. Which I did. And got to meet Doug. Doug is also one of the best people in the Orp world I ever met. And learned from him, his mentor Jack Patterson what is the important traits to choose first when breeding Orps from Jack and Doug.
Broadest Head
Broadest Chest
Broadest Back
then worry about the rest. With proper training from great people like these folks I am very lucky to have made good choices in my breeding program. As you prolly already know you can screw up a great line rather quickly if you choose the wrong offspring to breed from in the future of any variety.
Looking forward in seeing how nice the babies come out of that super nice fluffy Buff pullet you have. Keep us posted.
GOOD LUCK with the BUFFS!!!!

Some of my original Akers Buffs thank you Larry!!

Keep this bird white and you may have a show winner there. The tail is awesome...so is the whole bird for that matter...including the feather quality. Good job!

Walt

Thanks Walt. I was moving her and the other 5 Whites and a Buff out of that grow out pen last nite and took a notice how nicely she has developed. I have been to about 20 APA shows and have seen what is winning. The stiffer tail feathered birds have been doing well. And guys like you Bob Blosi, Matt L,, Doug and Jack amongst others have been working their birds with stiffer tails. Bob especially was saying how much the Orps needed to have the stiffer tails. And I agree. They look great when they have a nice tail like her.

guess it would be nice to add the girlfreinds. shes going to molt any minute..she has that pale Im going to have a mighty molt look latley..get rid of that rooster damage..no more of that with AI. I just love this hen. she has such a super nice wide feather thou they are ready to fall off any min....time to turn in this cheap camera for a better one, maybe santa be nice this year..not to say I would ever take a better picture with it but at least maybe better color would show up..grass might be the green color that it actually is.

and a pullet saw something scarey at the far end of the fence so she came running..I am probably the worst photographer..they move so fast..but its so much fun tryin. pic taken about 2 1/2 mos.

a chilly morning
